Bougainvillea Hanging Baskets

Being a vining plant, bougainvillea naturally grow beautiful in hanging baskets and wall planters.  Display them around the porch, along fences, and walkways.  If you place them under eaves, just make sure it’s getting at least 5 hours of direct sun for best blooming.

Almost any variety of bougainvillea will grow in a hanging basket if properly cared for, but if you are looking for that cascading look, some varieites are better than others.  These also tend to be more easier to maintain in a hanging planter since they naturally tend to branch and bloom with very little coaxing!  The bougainvillea vareties BGI recommends growing in hanging planters are:  Barbara Karst, Imperial Delight, Miami Pink, Miss Alice, Silhouette, and any of the Flavored Ice varieties like Raspberry Ice, Vanilla Ice, and Blueberry Ice.  Just keep in mind that the Flavored Ice varieties are extremely slow growing.
