Bougainvillea Standards
BGI started experimenting with braiding standards in early 2003. In the two years that followed, they bounced back from three major hurricanes with an even stronger determination to produce a more robust, sturdy bougainvillea tree. By twisting several plants together, the trunks ultimately fuse together to create a significantly thicker, more reinforced trunk. At the same time, the color on the tree’s canopy is increased three to six times due to the additional two to five plants now making up the tree instead of just one. Rave reviews from landscapers compelled the BGI production team to now grow the majority of our standards in braided form.
