A flowering, tropical bougainvillea for bonsai has few equals, lending its complex branching to the pruning shears, which promote even more unique and graceful forms, while at the same time producing more blooms. Each BGI Bougainvillea Bonsai arrives fully rooted in a ceramic, bonsai pot. The specialty bonsai potting mix consisting of lava rocks and bark for maximum drainability.
Contrary to popular belief, bonsai bougainvillea are not suited for indoor culture, although many have been successful in maintaining beautiful bougainvillea indoors next to a sunny window. Remember first and foremost, a BGI Bougainvillea Bonsai is still a bougainvillea! For optimum color and health, bougainvillea should be grown outdoors in full, direct sun. Water only when needed (at the first sign of wilt), and stay on a monthly trimming and fertilizing schedule. Since BGI’s bonsai soil is extremely quick-draining, you will need to water your bonsai more frequently than a bougainvillea planted in more traditional potting soil.
Your BGI Bougainvillea Bonsai can remain in it’s original bonsai pot for several years, bringing you much color and enjoyment for many years to come.
Be sure to check out our BOUGAIN® Bloom Boost which promotes rich color while addressing the bougainvillea’s Achilles heel – their delicate root system.
